Meeting LJers

In Mumbai, I met three wonderful LJers. Deepa organized the details and along with Basrya, met at Trishna – the seafood place in Fort Mumbai. It was such a thrill to see folks that I had only commented with. Finally putting faces to all the posts. By just reading her posts and her comments, I surmised Deepa would be a vivacious bundle of energy. She was all that and more. She is beautiful too and has the warmest smile. Everyone should have a friend like Basrya. You quickly realize he knows more people than you can imagine and his cell phone rings constantly. Their warm welcome put me at ease, and very soon we were chatting away like if we had know each other for ages.

For lunch we had Squid Kohliwada (delicious) and the truly spectacular – Rawas Hyderabadi. OMG! how do they make it so tender and juicy? We also had a huge crab baked in butter and garlic. When they offer you a bib, you realize its going to be messy – and it was … and delicious. I would have been more comfortable eating this at home, in my old t-shirt, and the juices smeared on my whole face and running down my elbow. If you are in Mumbai, go to TRISHNA!

Out in the sun, I got a chance to see (and photograph) Deelight's “red highlights,” those same ones which drive passersby to do crazy things. Dee and basrya also brought me along to see their posh, brand-spanking new multiplex theater near Mantralaya. Very very nice! After parting I couldn't stop thinking of the fabulous afternoon and wanted to meet again.

On my last day in Mumbai, we met again at the Jehangir Art Gallery. This time Radhika joined us, coming all the way from Borivili. Radhika is very bright and witty. She had read many of my old posts and had me all figured out! We had a nice chat and it was heartening to see her take a break from her journalism career to ensure Niharika has a great childhood. My hats off to you Radhika! For lunch at the Samovar we had Shrimp Biryani, Boti-Boti roll (like a Frankie), Guava juice and some other goodies. Lunch was followed by a photo session in the Art Gallery.

I had to rush back to finish my packing and get the flight. I had so much fun, I was actually depressed. Its like the 'sunday evening depression, because you have to go to work on Monday' sort of thing. Over time I am sure it will be replaced by the excitement of heading back to india on my next visit. Right now I have a dull ache, missing new friends. Keep in touch!
